VERVE Practitioner

If you wish to create an environment where all children can be successful in developing their speech, language and communication needs through every interaction they have with your practitioners or staff then this is a proven approach to do just that in a relatively short space of time.

What to expect/This comprises of:

  • An introductory session (half hour) free of charge to meet with practitioners to talk through what to expect, what will be involved and discuss the practicalities to get the most out of these sessions.
  • 4 once weekly sessions when a pair of practitioners bring a video clip each of them playing with an identified child.
  • Through playing with the child in an activity they have chosen and are enjoying, we will together identify the strategies that support the child’s speech, language and communication development. The video provides us with the opportunity to analyse how the child is communicating. In watching the interaction on playback, I can support the practitioner’s insight and knowledge of the child with my experience as a clinician.
  • Having observed the child’s strategies for getting their needs met and making themselves understood, we can together identify which adult strategies work best specifically for them building on the skills the practitioners already have.
  • During the week, each practitioner experiments with this strategy, together with the child in 5 minutes play daily in the setting. At the end of the week a further video is taken in readiness for the next session to explore the impact.
  • This continues across the four weeks, each week building on the previous weeks.
